Through Glass Pet Doors can be a slightly more complex and expensive purchase and install, our team is here to assist you through the entire process! Thru-Glass Dog Doors are one of the highest-end and best-looking finishes you can get for your home! There are several additional steps which the Dog Proofer service team can guide you through, below are the steps for purchasing and installing a Thru-Glass Pet Door by Dog Proofer:
-
Size: Select the size of the pet door.
-
Color: Select the color of your dog door frame.
-
Flap: Select double or single flap (double flap offers better insulation)
-
Locking Cover: all through-glass pet doors INCLUDE BY DEFAULT a top-loading (slides in from the top) exterior, lockable hard cover and double magnetic door flaps for the best insulation/security. If you cannot accommodate a top loading cover, or want to remove the cover altogether, please contact us at help@dogproofer.com!
Dog Proofer's single pane glass pet doors work with glass thickness up to 3/16''. If you glass is double-paned OR single-paned with glass thicker than 3/16", please select the double pane, double flap pet door option.
Additionally, the glass company will need to provide you the following information to share with our fabrication team. Do NOT try to install an in-glass dog door yourself! Sliding glass doors are made with tempered glass, and unless you get professional installation, you will risk injury and almost certainly ruin the door. The information needed BEFORE the door can be manufactured are as follows:
-
Glass Thickness: What is the thickness of your glass (the glass company will confirm this if you are unsure - this can cause large changes in your glass fabrication price)? The glass thickness measurement is sum of the thickness of each pane of glass (whether it is single pane or double pane glass). If there is space between your double pane glass, the measurement would need to include the space between each pane as well.
-
Glass Size: What is length and width of the entire pane of glass that the pet door is being installed into (the ENTIRE piece of glass the pet door is being installed in will need to be replaced with a custom fabricated glass insert)?
-
Double or Single Pane: Is the glass double or single paned (double-paned is the most common is for modern exterior windows and sliding glass doors)?
-
Frame Type: what type of frame is your glass built into (most modern windows are doors are metal or aluminum)?
The above information will be the primary cost drivers for your custom glass cutting and installation. It is relatively easy to get an estimate for the labor and materials with estimates of the above information, in the event you want to get a full picture of the costs before purchasing your dog door.
PLEASE NOTE: the "glazing" process (purchasing a custom glass panel and installing it) will result in additional costs beyond your pet door! You can find approximate pricing guidance under the "Installation" tab of this product listing but please be aware that glass and labor costs vary greatly by geography.
